Brian Culbertson was born in Decatur (Illinois) in 1973 and is a musician, producer, and multi instrumentalist (synthesizer, piano, trombone, drums, bass, trumpet, euphonium, and percussion). His musical style is best described as a blend of smooth jazz (a genre that grew out of jazz and is influenced by rhythm and blues, funk, rock and roll, and pop music), crossover jazz (a genre that’s rooted in jazz but aims for mainstream popularity by using a lot of improvisation), funk, and contemporary R&B (a genre that combines elements of rhythm and blues, soul, funk, pop, hip hop, and dance). He’s had a stellar career with 14 studio albums, 2 live albums, and he’s collaborated with many renowned artists such as Maurice White, Bootsy Collins, Ledisi, Musiq Soulchild, Larry Graham, Avant, Faith Evans, Kenny Lattimore, Vivian Green, Stokley Williams from Mint Condition, Rahsaan Patterson, Noel Gourdin, Brian McKnight, Ray Parker Jr., Boney James, Chris Botti, Earl Klugh, Dave Koz, Peter White, Richard Elliot, Jeff Lorber, and Michael Lington. He’s received many accolades including 6 Oasis Smooth Jazz Awards, a Canadian Smooth Jazz Award, an American Smooth Jazz, an ASYM All That Jazz Award and a National Smooth Jazz Award.
