Chris Botti, Oregon’s sensational trumpet player is bringing his signature sounds to the Florida Theater!
Chris Botti was born in Portland in 1962 and is a trumpeter and composer. He took an interest in music through his motherr, a classically trained pianist and part-time piano teacher. He started playing the trumpet when he was 9 years old and decided to make career out of it at the age of 12 when he heard Miles Davis play the popular jazz standard, My Funny Valentine. In 1981 he got to perform at Carnegie Hall and at 17 he was playing at local clubs in the evenings. Chris left university in during his senior year for short touring gigs with Frank Sinatra and Buddy Rich and in 1985, he moved to New York City to hone his craft as a studio musician. 5 years later he met legendary musician Paul Simon and went on to tour and record with him for a decade. During that period, he also performed/recorded with other renowned artists like Aretha Franklin, Natalie Cole, Bette Midler, Joni Mitchell, Natalie Merchant, Scritti Politti, Roger Daltrey and others. He’s had a stellar career with 10 studio albums, 2 compilation albums, 2 live albums, and in 2013 he won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Album.
