Rodrigo y Gabriela, Mexico’s sensational multi genre artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Florida Theater!
Rodrigo y Gabriela (Rodrigo and Gabriela) was formed in Mexico City in 2000 and is an instrumental acoustic guitar duo consisting of Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero. They first met at a drama class and bonded over similar musical tastes. They grew up listening to flamenco, jazz, rock, and they cite Metallica as a significant influence. Their musical style is best described as a blend of classical, Latin, heavy metal (a subgenre of rock that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s and features a thick, massive sound, characterized by highly amplified distortion, extended guitar solos, emphatic beats, and overall loudness), nuevo flamenco (a derivative of traditional flamenco that combines flamenco guitar virtuosity with jazz, rumba, bossa nova, Gypsy, Latin, Middle Eastern, rock, Cuban swing, tango, salsa, and especially blues), and folk. They’ve had a stellar career with 1 self released album, 5 studio albums, 3 live albums, 1 extended play, and they’ve performed at many major events such as Glastonbury, Latitude festival, Nice Jazz Festival, Ravinia Festival, Sasquatch! Music Festival, and BBC - T in the Park Festival. They’ve also collaborated with Hans Zimmer to write and record sessions of the score from Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
Don’t miss your chance to see the guitar duo that plays an appealing amalgam of classical, Latin, heavy metal, new flamenco, and folk music!
