Swan Lake is a ballet composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, with libretto by Vladimir Begichev and Vasily Getzer. It was composed in 1875–76 and has now become one of the most popular ballets. It’s often called ‘the ballet of ballets’ with its story of pure romanticism, love, and deception blended with Tchaikovsky’s famous ballet music. The story takes its roots from Russian folklore and German legend that capture the journey of a heroic young prince on a quest to free a beautiful swan maiden from an evil spell.
