The Russian Grand Ballet was founded by graduates of the Great Russian choreography schools of Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Kiev. It’s made a name for itself for having talented and versatile dancers and for touring the world with both full-length traditional ballets and shorter performances (called divertissements). Its Ballet Master is Vladimir Troshchenko (Honored Artist of Russia) and he’s renowned for his dedication to the timeless tradition of classical Russian Ballet. The principal dancers of the Russian Grand Ballet have a background in the upper ranks of great ballet companies and academies and at present, the company is the home of over 50 brilliant dancers. Swan Lake is a ballet composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, with libretto by Vladimir Begichev and Vasily Getzer. It was composed in 1875–76 and has now become one of the most popular ballets. It’s often called ‘the ballet of ballets’ with its story of pure romanticism, love, and deception blended with Tchaikovsky’s famous ballet music. The story takes its roots from Russian folklore and German legend that capture the journey of a heroic young prince on a quest to free a beautiful swan maiden from an evil spell.
